An awakening to the higher reality of consciousness for me began in 2011. I was living in Brazil, teaching English as a second language, as well as elementary school classes in Science, Geography, and Math. Courageously, I had left Toronto for this foreign adventure. Previously, I graduated from a 5-year Applied Chemistry and Biology Bachelor of Science program at Ryerson University, during which I held 4-month work placements in proteomics, DNA sequencing, vaccine development, food manufacturing, and sleep medicine. However, the jobs in quality assurance I interviewed for after graduating seemed very dull. I was 23, had trauma in my adolescence, and had not yet reached the inner peace I have nowadays, so I sought out a travel coming- of-age experience. Interestingly, my old boss at the vaccine company Sanofi Pasteur, for which I worked as a co-op student developing the pneumoccocal vaccine, offered me a full-time job exactly a few days before my
planned departure to Brazil. I often think about this moment and imagine my life would have turned out quite different if I accepted this respectable, high-paying job. But I chose to follow my heart instead.
